Rafael Tuts is a seasoned professional in urban development, currently serving as the Director of the Global Solutions Division at UN-Habitat since December 2011. Tuts leads the creation of global guidelines for sustainable urban development and supports program development based on these guidelines. Previously, Tuts held various leadership roles within UN-Habitat, including Director of the Programme Division, where strategic guidance was provided for thematic branches and regional offices, and as Chief of the Urban Environment and Planning Branch, focusing on sustainable urban development policies in developing countries. Tuts also has a strong academic background, having served as a research fellow at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and the University of Nairobi, and possesses a degree in Architectural Engineering and Urban Studies from KU Leuven.
