Assistant Teaching Professor - Civil And Environmental Engineering at UNC Charlotte

Maria Guimaraes is an accomplished academic and engineer currently serving as an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering department at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte since August 2025. With extensive industry experience, Maria held various positions at EPRI from May 2009 to August 2025, including Technical Executive for the US Member Committee of the World Energy Council, Program Manager, and Project Manager. Prior to this, Maria worked as a Project Manager at Aalborg Portland between May 2002 and May 2007 and gained foundational research experience as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Georgia Institute of Technology from September 1997 to February 2002. Maria holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master’s degree in Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering from Newcastle University.
