UNC Health Foundation

UNC Health Foundation is the fundraising engine that powers philanthropic investment in the University of North Carolina’s top-notch medical education, clinical research and healthcare infrastructure. We raise critical funding to train the next generation of expert caregivers, move our world-renowned research from the bench to the bedside and provide the best possible care to people in every county in North Carolina and every corner of the world. Originally chartered in 1949 as a 501(c)(3) charitable not-for-profit organization called the Medical Foundation of North Carolina, Inc., UNC Health Foundation fosters private gift support of programs throughout the UNC School of Medicine and UNC Hospitals. THE FUNDRAISING IMPERATIVE Physician-scientists at UNC constantly strive to discover better means of preventing and treating disease. However, since state funding accounts for less than 12 percent of the Hospital’s annual budget, they must rely on support from friends and alumni. UNC Health Foundation presently raises approximately $20 million each year in new gifts for the School and Hospitals, and currently manages more than $230 million, distributed through more than 1000 individual accounts for endowments and active programs. While most funds are earmarked for specific purposes (scholarships, research, and patient support), UNC also seeks unrestricted funds to address emerging and pressing needs. A donation to UNC Health Foundation makes a difference here at home as well as around the world.
