Sarah Spelsberg MD FAWM FEWM serves as the Director of Operations USA for World Extreme Medicine since November 2022, overseeing curriculum and opportunity development in partnership with the UK head office. Additionally, Sarah is a Medical Doctor at UNC Health Southeastern and holds the position of Medical Lead at the Neptune 100 Project. Sarah's extensive experience at Mayo Clinic since 2007 includes roles as Physician Assistant in Orthopedic Surgery, Assistant Professor, and Program Director for Physician Assistant Clinical Education. Complementary experiences include emergency medicine staffing at IFHS and various consulting roles. Sarah's education encompasses a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant studies from Barry University and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, along with multiple wilderness medicine certifications.

UNC Health Southeastern, which is licensed for 452 beds, is a comprehensive healthcare system that offers an array of services through its affiliated divisions. The medical center is accredited by DNV-GL Healthcare and offers a combination of acute care, intensive care and psychiatric services to more than 13,000 inpatients and 60,000 emergency patients annually. As a nonprofit organization, UNC Health Southeastern is operated by a local board of trustees whose only remuneration is the assurance it is making quality healthcare available for its community. There are more than 135 physicians on the active medical staff. UNC Health Southeastern is still the only hospital in Robeson County and serves patients throughout southeastern North Carolina.
