Philip Gerard is an accomplished academic with extensive experience in creative writing and arts administration. Currently serving as Chair of the Creative Writing Department at UNCW since August 1989, Philip manages budgeting, class scheduling, faculty evaluation, and long-term planning while overseeing graduate teaching assistants and various outreach efforts. Previously, as a Professor and former Chair of Creative Writing at the North Carolina Arts Council from 2006 to 2013, Philip contributed to policy-setting and grant evaluations while helping to establish The Arts Council of Wilmington and New Hanover County. Additionally, Philip served as faculty at the Bread Loaf Writers Conference from 1982 to 1994, engaging in workshops and public readings. Academic qualifications include a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Arizona and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and English from the University of Delaware.
