Monica Rijal is a seasoned professional in conflict prevention and peacebuilding, currently serving as Deputy Resident Representative and Team Leader at UNDP since October 2020. Prior to this role, Monica held several significant positions within UNDP, including Policy Specialist for Conflict Prevention and Recovery Specialist in Myanmar, where responsibilities included leading recovery sector coordination and strategic programming in Rakhine and Kachin. Experience also encompasses serving as Programme Specialist for Conflict Prevention in Nepal, focusing on collaborative leadership and mainstreaming conflict sensitivity. Other roles include Programme Officer for the UN Peace Fund for Nepal, Political Affairs Officer with UNMIN, and Program Manager for Catholic Relief Services in Cambodia. Academic qualifications include a Master’s degree in Conflict Transformation from Eastern Mennonite University and a Master’s degree in Economics from Pune University.
