Macarena Rivera has extensive experience in legal and international program management. Beginning as a Legal Intern at Hernán Álvarez y Cía. Abogados from February 2012 to December 2013, Macarena later took on various roles at UNESCO from January 2021 to August 2023, including Associate Programme Specialist and Project Officer, focusing on freedom of expression and safety of journalists. Additional professional experience includes serving as Program Manager for the Student Volunteer Program at Forum de Paris sur la Paix and as an Associate Attorney at Villalba y Cía. Macarena also held roles with Corporación de Asistencia Judicial Metropolitana and Youth 4 Change Network. Educational qualifications include a Law degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, a University Diploma in French Studies from Université de Poitiers, a Postgraduate Diploma in International/Global Studies from Universidad de Chile, and a Master’s degree in International Public Management from Sciences Po.
