Selena Whitaker-Paquiet possesses extensive experience in both the legal and creative fields. Currently serving as a Secretary for the Board of Directors at Unexpected Productions Improv since September 2021, Selena also holds the position of Senior Patent Prosecution Specialist at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati since December 2020. Prior roles include Patent Paralegal at Chadeayne, LLC from November 2017 to January 2023, and a significant tenure as a Board Member and Governance Committee Chair at Northwest Folklife from January 2015 to December 2020. Additionally, Selena contributed to the music industry as a bass player, vocalist, and lyricist for the band NighTraiN between December 2006 and October 2014. Educational background includes studies at the University of Washington from 1980 to 1982 and Roosevelt from 1976 to 1980.

Unexpected Productions Improv

Unexpected Productions doesn't just teach improv skills, but skills that can apply to everyday life; Active listening, verbal/non-verbal communication, creativity, acceptance of ideas, responding quicker in the moment, flexibility to change, problem-solving, and appropriate risk taking. Multinational corporations based in Seattle, like Amazon, Microsoft, Boeing, and Starbucks have integrated Unexpected Productions’ trainings into their daily operations. Local groups like the Space Needle, Virginia Mason and Group Health have also integrated Unexpected Productions’ unique teachings. Unexpected Productions started out 31 years ago in a Chinese restaurant in Pioneer Square and evolved into a leader in improv in Seattle, the greater Pacific Northwest and the United States. Almost every improv troupe in the city has members that came from Unexpected Productions troupe or were taught in its improv school; including Jet City Improv, ComedySportz, as well as countless others. Their International Festival of Improv, now in its 19th years, has brought improvisers from around the world to Seattle. After the festival, they bring back to their homes styles and knowledge that they learned at Unexpected Productions. Participating countries have included Spain, India, France, Japan, Slovenia, Germany, Mexico, Holland, Canada, Italy, Belgium, Australia, New Zealand, From its home at the Market Theater in Seattle’s Historic Pike Place Market, Unexpected Productions has created well over 150 original shows. In addition to creating original works, for 30 years, Unexpected Productions’ has produced and presented Seattle TheatreSports, the first Theatresports in the United States, and Seattle’s longest running show.
