Peter Maes has extensive experience in Water, Hygiene, and Sanitation (WASH) coordination and environmental health within humanitarian contexts. Beginning with thesis research at the Rubber Research Institute Malaysia in 1990, Peter's career includes significant roles at UNICEF as Chief of WASH in both Bangladesh and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and a long tenure at Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) from 2001 to 2020, where Peter served as the Leader of the WASH working group and Coordinator of the Environmental Health Unit. Peter's expertise also encompasses vector control in malaria prevention, and experience in emergency response across multiple countries. Academic qualifications include a Master's degree in Water Resources Engineering from Université libre de Bruxelles and a Master of Bio-engineering from Ghent University.
