William E. Lewis

William E. Lewis is a Professor in the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department in the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering at ASU. Lewis received his B.S. in Industrial Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University in 1962. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University in 1964 and 1966, respectively.

Lewis came to ASU in 1965 as an assistant professor of Industrial Engineering. In 1980, he became the founding chair of the CSE department and was elevated to professor in 1981. He served as Chair of CSE until 1985 when he accepted the position of assistant dean and later associate dean in the school. In 1992, he served as interim director for Academic and Communications Technology. In 1993, he became the Vice Provost for Information Technology. In 2003, he was elevated to the Chief Information Officer and Vice Provost of ASU.
