Shyam Upadhyaya is an accomplished statistician with extensive experience in managing statistical programs and research related to sustainable development. Currently an Independent Practitioner since May 2020, Shyam previously held the position of Chief Statistician at UNIDO from 2005 to the present, where responsibilities included overseeing the statistical program, producing analytical products on industrialization and environmental impact, and enhancing the integration of big data into official statistics. Prior to UNIDO, Shyam served as a Director at INSTAT from 1997 to 2005 and worked as a statistician at the Central Bureau of Statistics in Nepal from 1987 to 1996. Shyam holds a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Economic Statistics from Moscow State University and a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Statistics from Tri-Chandra College.
