Tony Underwood

Chief Deputy Sheriff at Union County Sheriff's Office

Tony Underwood has a diverse work experience. Tony started working at the Union County Sheriff's Office in 2016, initially as a Public Information Officer and later becoming the Chief Deputy Sheriff in December 2020. Tony also served as an Instructor at the Community Colleges of North Carolina since 1996 until 2023. Tony was part of the Board of Visitors at Lenoir-Rhyne University from 2019 to 2022. Additionally, they held the position of President of the Homeowners Association at Glenmore Gardens from 2013 to 2015. Prior to these roles, Tony worked at the NC State Bureau of Investigation, where they served as a Special Agent in various capacities, including as Special Agent in Charge from 2009 to 2015.

Tony Underwood earned a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Lenoir-Rhyne University, attending from 1985 to 1988. Before that, they briefly studied Business Administration and Management, General at Appalachian State University in 1984. Later on, in 2002 to 2003, they pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Pfeiffer University.
