Director Of Manufacturing Technology at Union Electric Steel

Robert VanKley has a diverse work experience spanning over a decade. Robert started at Euclid Beverage as an IIT Student Operations Improvement Team Member, where they focused on creating process maps and suggesting improvements to enhance efficiency. Robert then joined Versatility Tool Works as an IIT Student Mechanical Testing Team Leader, conducting tests on tool cabinet designs and analyzing the data to identify areas for improvement.

After completing their studies, Robert VanKley joined Union Electric Steel as a Process Engineer, gaining hands-on experience in various manufacturing departments and utilizing CAD/CAM software to reduce cycle times. Robert later transitioned to the role of Senior Process Engineer, leading continuous improvement initiatives and collaborating with other departments to resolve maintenance issues and implement corrective actions.

Their strong performance led to their promotion as Machine Shop Supervisor, where they supervised daily operations, managed personnel and resources, and ensured compliance with quality procedures. Robert then advanced to Assistant Superintendent and later Superintendent, where they oversaw all aspects of machine shop production, workflow scheduling, and personnel management.

In their most recent role as Senior Corporate Engineer at Union Electric Steel, Robert VanKley supported corporate equipment improvement and reliability initiatives, completed FMEAs, and contributed to the development of equipment strategy for the company's Harmon Creek plant.

Throughout their career, Robert VanKley has demonstrated their ability to drive efficiency, increase capacity, and implement improvement initiatives in manufacturing operations while maintaining a safe working environment.

Robert VanKley attended Thornton Fraction South High School from 2002 to 2006, where they obtained their high school diploma. Following this, they went on to study at the Illinois Institute of Technology from 2006 to 2010, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (BSME) degree in Mechanical Engineering and Business. After completing their undergraduate education, Robert obtained additional certifications including ISO 9001:2008 Internal Auditor from SRI Quality System Registrar in April 2012 and Professional Engineer Intern from the State of Illinois in June 2010.
