Sam Heffernan has extensive work experience in various roles and industries. In 2007, they started working as a Statistical Inventory Analyst at Leighton O'Brien, where they conducted statistical analysis of data from underground fuel systems, investigated loss in compromised fuel systems, and managed client accounts.
In 2009, Sam became an Operations Engineer at Leighton O'Brien Field Services, where they managed in situ fuel system testing projects, developed new projects and business streams, and oversaw operations in multiple regions.
In 2010, Sam joined S&P Global Ratings as part of the Ratings Risk Review team, where they observed and ensured consistency of ratings and rating behavior across different sectors and geographies. Sam also played a key role in project management, as well as effectively conveying observations to senior management and peers through strong writing and presentation skills.
From 2013 to 2015, Sam worked in Structured Finance Ratings at S&P Global Ratings, where they were responsible for credit ratings on a range of asset-backed securities, focusing on residential mortgage, auto-loan, and commercial mortgage-backed instruments. Sam demonstrated keen analytical insight and an exceptional understanding of structured finance transactions in this role.
In 2017, Sam joined Yarra Capital Management as an Investment Manager, a position they held until 2021.
Currently, Sam works as a Manager - Fixed Interest at UniSuper, a position they started in 2022.
Sam Heffernan pursued their undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering from 2000 to 2004 at the University of Leeds, where they earned a BEng (Hons) degree. After a brief hiatus, they furthered their education at Kaplan Professional from 2009 to 2013. During this period, they completed a Masters degree in Applied Finance.
