Shane Cashin has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Shane began their career in 1996 as an Economist at the Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DNRE), where they worked on making farming more efficient through data analysis. From 1997 to 2004, they held various roles at DNRE, including Service Desk Analyst, Project Officer, and Desktop Support Analyst.
In 2004, Cashin joined the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) as a Network Engineer, where they maintained and upgraded LAN, MAN, and WAN networks across 130 regional sites. Shane continued their work in network engineering at the Department of Infrastructure (DOI) from 2005 to 2007, focusing on LAN, MAN, and WAN network maintenance and upgrades. At DOI, they also played a vital role in the regional WAN upgrade, installing and configuring Cisco routers.
Cashin briefly worked as a Network Engineer at the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) - Shared Services Centre (SSC) in 2007 before joining the University of Melbourne in the same year. At the University, they took on multiple Network Engineer roles, which involved tasks such as analyzing the best locations for wireless access points, installing and configuring access points and switches, and managing access points using Cisco WCS.
In 2015, Cashin transitioned to UniSuper as an ICT and Security Engineer. Shane specialized in Juniper switching, routing, and firewalls, as well as F5 load balancers and Aruba wireless technologies. Shane then moved on to become an Infrastructure and Cloud Engineer, focusing on various strategic projects to modernize the UniSuper network stack, including the introduction of SDx, multi-cloud, and SaaS technologies.
Their most recent role at UniSuper was as a Security Engineer, where they focused on ensuring the security and stability of the network infrastructure.
Throughout their career, Cashin has gained extensive experience in network engineering, security, and infrastructure across a range of industries and organizations.
Shane Cashin attended Deakin University from 1994 to 2002, where they pursued a Bachelor of Communication degree with a focus on Economics and Information Services. In 2015, they obtained a certification in Prince2 fundamentals from Saxons Training Facilities.
