James Mbai

Deputy Chief, Joint Medical Service at United Nations Office at Nairobi

James Mbai has a diverse work experience in the medical field. James started their career in 2007 at The Nairobi Hospital as a Senior House Officer in A&E and ICU. In 2010, they began working part-time as a Medical Escort for the International Organisation for Migration, a role they continued until 2014. From 2011 to 2014, they also worked part-time as a Flight Doctor for AMREF Flying Doctors. In 2012, they joined the United Nations Joint Medical Service as a Medical Officer, where they worked until 2015. Since 2016, they have been employed by the United Nations Office at Nairobi, first as a Coordination Officer until 2022 and currently as the Deputy Chief of the Joint Medical Service.

James Mbai began their education at Starehe Boys' Centre and School from 1996 to 1999, where they obtained their high school diploma or certificate. James then attended the University of Nairobi from 2000 to 2005, earning their MBcHB degree in Medicine.

In 2013, James pursued further education and completed a Basic Aviation Medicine program at King's College London. During the same year, they also enrolled at the Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale, where they obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Disaster Medicine from 2013 to 2015.

Additionally, in January 2014, James obtained the International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety from NEBOSH.
