Jorge Maldonado Escobar is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in security and conflict resolution. Currently serving as Thematic Expert for the Colombia program at the United States Institute of Peace since August 2022, Maldonado focuses on preventing and mitigating violent conflicts through community engagement and established methodologies. Previously held roles include Director Adjunto at the United States Institute of Peace, overseeing initiatives to foster peace in conflict-affected areas. Jorge Maldonado Escobar also has a distinguished military career, retiring as Major General from the Ejercito Nacional de Colombia, with significant responsibilities as Jefe de Casa Militar and Jefe de Seguridad de la Presidencia. An alumnus of the Inter-American Defense College, Maldonado holds multiple advanced degrees in defense and public administration, including training at prestigious institutions such as the école militaire Paris and INALDE Business School.
