Robert Barnsby

Vice Dean, Engagement at West Point

Professor Rob Barnsby currently serves as West Point’s first-ever Vice Dean for Engagement. He is also an Associate Professor. Rob graduated from West Point in 1996 and earned his J.D. at William & Mary Law School, where he served as Executive Editor of the William & Mary Law Review, in 2004. During his 20 years of active-duty service, Rob served in key legal positions in Afghanistan, Fort Drum, and Fort Bragg, while also earning advanced degrees in both law (LL.M.) and military science (MMAS). He taught at the Judge Advocate General’s School, leading the Army’s earliest efforts to teach cyber law to senior military leaders and incoming brigade and battalion commanders. In 2016, he became the Army Cyber Institute’s Cyber Law Fellow. Rob has authored numerous scholarly legal and cyber publications while being a highly sought-after speaker in both disciplines. He has high-level experience in public-private and academic partnerships and has taught as a Visiting Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, at which he was recently named a Berkeley Public Law & Policy Fellow.
