Sammy J. Nicholas has extensive experience in information systems and communications in various military organizations. Since 2021, they have been working as the Information Systems Chief at United States Southern Command. Prior to this role, from 2018 to 2021, they served as the Communications Directorate Senior Supervisor at Special Operations Command Africa. From 2015 to 2018, they worked as the Intelligence and Security Senior Supervisor at US Army Cyber Center of Excellence.
Sammy J. Nicholas completed an Associate of Science (AS) degree in Accounting from Sullivan University between 2012 and 2014. Following that, from 2015 to 2018, Sammy attended Western Governors University and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Business - Information Technology Management.
United States Southern Command
The United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM), located in Doral, Florida in Greater Miami, is one of ten Unified Combatant Commands (CCMDs) in the United States Department of Defense. It is responsible for providing contingency planning, operations, and security cooperation for Central and South America, the Caribbean (except U.S. commonwealths, territories, and possessions), their territorial waters, and for the force protection of U.S. military resources at these locations. USSOUTHCOM is also responsible for ensuring the defense of the Panama Canal and the canal area. As explained below, USSOUTHCOM has been under scrutiny due to several human rights and rule of law controversies in which it has been embroiled for nearly a decade.
