Tesfa Birru has a diverse work experience in the sugar industry. Tesfa started their career in 2000 at the Metahara Sugar Factory, where they held the position of Ethanol plant Processing Section Head, Shift Coordinator, and Supervisor. During their time at Metahara, they managed the installation and commissioning of a 50,000 Liter per day Ethanol plant project and oversaw operations, troubleshooting, and maintenance in the manufacturing of plantation white sugar. Tesfa also collaborated with Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation departments for equipment maintenance.
In 2011, Tesfa joined the Tendaho Sugar Factory as the Production Division Manager. Tesfa successfully managed the installation and commissioning of a greenfield project worth $450 million. Tesfa was responsible for selecting, recruiting, and training engineers and operating staff. Additionally, they regularly participated in project progress review meetings with Indian project managers.
In 2015, Tesfa joined U.S. Sugar Corp as a Process Engineer. Tesfa later transitioned to the role of Operations Shift Manager in 2017. Further details about their responsibilities in these positions are not provided.
Tesfa Birru attended Robe Dedea High School from 1992 to 1993, where they obtained a Certificate in Natural Sciences. Following this, from 1994 to 2000, they attended Addis Ababa University, Institute of Technology, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.
