Benjamin Davis

Director Of International Affairs at United Steelworkers

Benjamin Davis has a diverse and extensive work experience in labor relations and international affairs. Benjamin currently serves as the Chair of the Independent Mexico Labor Expert Board. In 2010, they took on the role of Director of International Affairs at the United Steelworkers (USW), where they managed relations with international trade unions and supported global organizing efforts. From 2004 to 2010, they served as the Mexico Country Program Director at the Solidarity Center, overseeing training programs for Mexican unions and coordinating relations with various stakeholders. Benjamin also held the position of Visiting Lecturer at the University of Chicago from 2007 to 2009. Prior to that, they were the Regional Program Director at the Solidarity Center, managing international labor cooperation programs throughout Latin America. Benjamin has also worked as an Associate and Law Clerk at O'Donoghue & O'Donoghue LLP, as well as a Law Clerk at the United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners of America. Benjamin began their career as a Staff Representative at AFGE, negotiating and administering collective bargaining agreements. Additionally, they worked as an Organizer at UNITE HERE Local 25 and SEIU.

Benjamin Davis has a diverse education history that spans several prestigious institutions. Benjamin attended The Park School of Baltimore from 1971 to 1976 for their secondary education. In 1980, they earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Anthropology from the University of Chicago. Benjamin then pursued further studies at The University of Manchester in 1980-1981, specializing in Sociology. From 1981 to 1984, Davis attended the University of Michigan, where they obtained a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in 1982 and continued as a Ph.D candidate in Anthropology. Benjamin later attended the University of Zimbabwe from 1984 to 1985, focusing on Anthropology. Davis then enrolled at American University in 1990, where they pursued a Ph.D in Sociology until 1992. Finally, they attended the American University Washington College of Law from 1992 to 1995, earning their Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree in Law in 1995.
