Natalie Harlan has held various roles throughout their work experience. Natalie began their career in 2000 as a member of the Board of Directors for Milwaukee Montessori School and served in that position until 2016. In 2009, they joined the Board of Directors for Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast and remained in that role until 2015. Natalie also became a member of the Board of Visitors for University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in 2009 and continued until 2019. In 2011, they joined the Board of Directors for Cinderella Project and served until 2017. From 2017 to 2019, they held the position of Director - Milwaukee Lifecourse Initiative for Healthy Families at United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County. In 2019, they were promoted to the role of Director of Human Resources and Talent Initiatives at the same organization. Their most recent role, starting in February 2022, is Vice President - Human Resources & Talent Initiatives at United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County.

Natalie Harlan holds a Master's degree in Human Resources and Labor Relations, which they obtained from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee between 2003 and 2008. Their field of study during this program was focused on Human Resources and Non-Profit Management. Prior to that, they also earned a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Illinois Chicago from 1987 to 1992.

In addition to their formal education, Natalie Harlan has obtained a certification in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace. Natalie received this certificate from USF Corporate Training and Professional Education in May 2021.
