Helio Varela

Helio Varela is a seasoned technology and digital consultant with extensive experience in various leadership roles across the telecommunications and information technology sectors. Currently serving as a Digital Consultant for the UN Office of the Special Adviser on Africa since September 2024, Helio is also the Chief Executive Officer of Cabo Verde Internet Exchange Point (CV-IXP) and a Board Member at UNITEL São Tomé, both positions held since January 2021 and January 2020, respectively. Previously, Helio was the Chief Technical and Information Officer at Unitel from April 2016 and worked as an Information Technology Manager at NOSI from October 1998 to March 2016, as well as at Coface Portugal from January 1994 to September 1998. Early in the career at iCL / FUJITSU from January 1987 to December 1993, Helio specialized in IT.
