Alan Blankshain

EVP, Engineering & Construction at Unity Aluminum

Alan Blankshain is a seasoned manufacturing professional, with nearly 40 years of experience. For the last 25 years, he has served in senior management roles for metal fabricating businesses.

As Executive Vice President of Engineering and Construction for Unity Aluminum, Alan has been responsible for all aspects of the site and the construction team. This has included purchasing the land, obtaining the necessary environmental permits, coordinating geotechnical evaluation of the soils and executing the recent site preparation work.

Alan managed the processes to select Clayco as the EPC contractor and IPI as the Owner’s Representative for construction management services. He has worked closely with IPI, Clayco, SMS and Ebner to bring the project to its current “shovel ready” status.

Prior to joining Unity Aluminum, Alan served as President of Midland Stamping and Fabricating (formerly Shale-Inland), leading the business division of Advanced Alloy Processing where his responsibilities included full profit and loss for business serving the automotive, truck/trailer, home goods and construction markets.

Throughout his career, Alan has worked with union and non-union workforces, and for strategic and private equity ownership. An energetic leader, he is known for his strength in analyzing business, negotiating contracts, managing supply chains and developing processes.

Always an innovator, Alan has secured two notable industry-related patents—one, a method for laser cladding thermally insulated abrasive particles to a substrate (jet engine turbine blades), and another, an apparatus and process for desalination.

Alan holds a Master of Management, Marketing & Finance, with Distinction, from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. And a BSME from Duke University.
