Born in Portugal in 1968, Elsa Maria Dos Santos Fernandes has been working in the education field since they graduated from college. After holding various teaching positions at different schools, they became Vice Rector at Universidade da Madeira in 2020.
Elsa Maria Dos Santos Fernandes has a Doctorate in Curriculum and Pedagogical Innovation from the University of Madeira, a Masters in Special Education from the João de Deus Higher Education School, a Post-Graduate in Special Education with a focus on Cognitivo-Motor from ISCIA, and a degree in Basic Education Teaching - Variant Math / Science from the Lisbon Higher Education School. Elsa also has a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico.
They are on a team with Custódia Mercês Reis Rodrigues Drumond - Vice Rector, João Dionísio Simões Barros - Pro Rector, and Susana Teles - Pro Rector. Elsa Maria Dos Santos Fernandes reports to José Sílvio Moreira Fernandes, Rector.
