Josep Ibáñez Muñoz

Director of International Programs at Universitat Pompeu Fabra Barcelona

Josep Ibáñez has been full professor of International Relations at the Department of Law since 2012 and a member of the Research Group on Public International Law and International Relations. He has a doctorate in Law from the UPF since 2003 and, previously, he had completed a master's degree in Political Science (1999); the degree in Political and Social Sciences at the UAB (1995); the BA in Modern Languages ​​at the University of the West of England (Bristol, 1991) and the License in Langues Étrangères Appliquées at the University of Rennes II - Upper Brittany (1990).

His teaching has been carried out mainly at the UPF, but also at numerous universities and educational institutions, such as Binus University (Jakarta, Indonesia), the Josef Korbel School of International Studies / University of Denver (USA), the National University of Seoul and the University of Korea (South Korea), the Barcelona Institute of International Studies (IBEI) and the Center for International Studies (CEI) - International Affairs.

His lines of research in international relations include the study of non-state actors and authorities in world politics, the political dimension of information and communication technologies, global governance and foreign policy analysis. His publications include several monographs and numerous articles, book chapters and working papers, within the framework of a dozen competitive national and international research projects.

In addition to teaching and research, he has developed consulting activities, has been a translator of monographs on international political economy and has held several positions, including academic secretary of the Revista Española de Derecho Internacional (2019-2023) , editor of the Orbis Working Papers (since 2015), member of the Internet Governance Forum - Spain (IGF-Spain, 2009-2014) and of the Multistakeholder Advisory Group of IGF Spain (since 2014). He is also a Fulbright alumni of the American Studies Center (since 2004); he has been an International Visitor of the US State Department (2005); as well as a fellow of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Canada (2002) and of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (1995).

Before assuming the academic direction of the International programs at the UPF, he was the academic coordinator of the LL.M. in European and Global Law (2017-2023) and mobility coordinator at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences (2009-2017).

He was appointed by the rector on March 30, 2023.
