Herbert Wilkerson MS, LPC, JSOCC is the Director of Student Multicultural and Diversity Programs at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, a position held since July 2017, focusing on empowering students to enhance resiliency, support retention and graduation, and cultivate global leadership. Additionally, Herbert serves as a Clinical Counselor I within UAB Student Counseling Services, providing support to the college student population and engaging in campus outreach to raise awareness about mental health resources, while delivering presentations on topics such as resiliency and stigma reduction in communities of color. Previously, from October 2012 to March 2020, Herbert worked as a Clinical Therapist at Alabama Clinical Schools, specializing as a Certified Juvenile Sex Offender Counselor and leading therapy for the RISE unit, which addresses severe behavioral issues in adolescent males. Herbert is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, expected to complete in August 2024, having earned a degree in Community Agency Counseling from Jacksonville State University.
