Karen Martins

Associate Director, Research & Strategy, Real World Evidence Unit at University of Alberta

Karen Martins has a diverse range of work experience in research and strategy. Karen has worked at the University of Alberta since 2009, starting as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and later becoming a Project Lead in the Real World Evidence Unit. In this role, they have led nutrition-focused oncology clinical trials and conducted timely real world evidence research projects. Karen also served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne, where they led multiple research projects related to neuromuscular diseases. Karen has effectively managed communication and built consensus among stakeholders. Additionally, Karen worked as a Sessional Instructor at the University of Calgary. Overall, they have demonstrated strong leadership and research skills throughout their diverse work experience.

Karen Martins received their Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with Distinction from the University of Alberta from 1996 to 2002. Karen went on to pursue their Ph.D. at the same university in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation from 2002 to 2009.
