Matina Kalcounis-Rueppell is an accomplished academic leader currently serving as College Dean and Vice Provost at the University of Alberta since July 2019, with past roles including Interim Dean of the College of Natural and Applied Sciences and Dean of Science. Prior to this, Matina was the Head of the Biology Department at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro from August 2016 to July 2019. Matina Kalcounis-Rueppell earned a PhD in Zoology/Animal Biology from Western University and completed a Post Doctoral Fellowship in Integrative Biology at the University of California, Berkeley.
