Mike Van Hee

Interim VP, Services at University of Calgary

Mike Van Hee leads services for the University of Calgary and is one of two interim vice-presidents for Finance and Services. As interim vice-president, Mike leads the human resources and environment health and safety unit, information technologies, facilities development, facilities management, risk management and insurance, emergency management, and campus security units.

Mike joined UCalgary in 2020 as the associate vice-president (human resources) and was responsible for strategic human resources counsel and direction, compensation, benefits, process transformation and implemented a new HR service delivery model in April 2021.

Mike’s experience includes leadership positions within the private sector including Wolseley Canada Inc, Repsol Oil and Gas Canada Inc, and Talisman Energy Inc where he progressed to hold a global vice-presidential appointment.

Mike is a human resources executive with over 25 years of experience aligning people strategy to organizational needs. He is a strong communicator, building relationships to support the needs of the organizations he has served. Mike is a responsive leader providing a clear vision and direction for staff while ensuring policies, procedures and best practices are responsive and adaptive to the stakeholders’ evolving needs.

Mike is an alumnus of the University of Alberta, holding a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He also holds the Chartered Professional in Human Resources designation. Mike was a member of the University of Calgary Dinos Men’s Basketball Team for two years.
