Matthew Trevett-Smith serves as the Director of the Center for Teaching & Assessment of Learning at the University of Delaware since March 2019, focusing on academic initiatives that promote inclusive, evidence-guided student learning. Prior experience includes serving as the founding Director of the Center for Teaching & Learning at Boston University from January 2016 to February 2019, where engagement with faculty and academic leaders was pivotal in advancing teaching and learning goals. Matthew also held the position of Assistant Director at the Center for Teaching Excellence at the University of Virginia from September 2013 to January 2016, designing and facilitating programs aimed at fostering teaching excellence and community. Previous roles include Academic Technology Consultant at the University of Richmond and Visiting Assistant Professor at St. Lawrence University, where innovative course offerings in Cyber-Anthropology and communication studies were developed. Matthew holds a Ph.D. and an MA in Cultural Anthropology from the University at Buffalo, as well as a BA from the State University of New York College at Potsdam.

The University, with origins in 1743, was chartered by the State of Delaware in 1833. A Women's College was opened in 1914, and in 1945 UD became permanently coeducational. The main campus is located in Newark, Delaware, a suburban community of nearly 30,000, situated midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Courses are also offered at the Wilmington campus and at other locations throughout the State, including Dover, Georgetown, Milford, and Lewes.
