Karl-Walter Jauch, born in 1952, was Medical Director of the Clinic of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU) until he retired on January 1, 2021. He studied human medicine at the Albrecht-Ludwig University in Freiburg, where he received his doctorate in 1978.
After completing his doctorate, he worked at surgical clinics in Munich and Villingen and as a military doctor for the German Armed Forces. In 1988 he habilitated with a study on postoperative insulin resistance and its influence by the kallikrein-kinin system at the LMU.
Karl-Walter Jauch was President of the German Society for Nutritional Medicine from 1976 to 2003 and is a member of various specialist societies, foundations and public bodies in Europe. In 2000 he established a foundation HTCR for research with human tissue and cell material.
Karl-Walter Jauch was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Medical Association and the Science Council (Medical Committee). He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.
