Alexander Bassen is a prominent academic and expert in capital markets and management, currently serving as a Professor at the University of Hamburg since March 2003. In January 2024, Bassen took on significant roles as the inaugural Chair of the Independent Standards Board for the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and as a member of the Sustainability Reporting Board for EFRAG. Bassen's extensive experience includes serving as Academic Director for EFFAS, a member of the German Advisory Council on Global Change, and a committee member for ASCG. Additionally, Bassen is an Honorary Research Associate at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment at the University of Oxford and a member of the G7 Impact Taskforce with the Global Steering Group for Impact Investment. Bassen is also involved in sustainable finance as a member and observer of various advisory committees within the Bundesministerium der Finanzen and has been a visiting professor at Henley Business School since July 2015.
