Terry L. von Thaden

Terry L. von Thaden, PhD, currently serves as the Assistant Director at the Office of Threat Assessment at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign since March 2025. Dr. von Thaden is also the CEO of Illumia, a consulting firm focused on safety and risk management in high reliability organizations, particularly in aviation. With over 15 years of experience, Dr. von Thaden has a strong background in research as a former Research Scientist at the Illinois Fire Service Institute and has held various roles in advisory capacities including Deputy Managing Director at the World Aviation Forum and Vice Chairperson of the Scientific Advisory Board for the United States Air Force. Dr. von Thaden's educational background includes multiple degrees in information science, human factors, aviation management, and design from reputable institutions.
