Dr. Barbara J. Wilson began her term as the 22nd president of the University of Iowa on July 15, 2021. She earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism and her master’s degree and PhD in communication arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She came to Iowa most recently having served as the executive vice president/vice president for academic affairs of the University of Illinois System. Prior to that, she served as head of the Department of Communication, vice provost for academic affairs, executive vice provost for faculty and academic affairs, Harry E. Preble Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and interim chancellor of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. President Wilson was a member of the Illinois faculty at Urbana-Champaign for 21 years. She was also a professor of communication at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the University of Louisville.

President Wilson’s research focuses on the social and psychological effects of the media, particularly on youth. She is coauthor or coeditor of four books and over 80 research articles, book chapters, and technical reports. In 2008, she was elected as Fellow of the International Communication Association.

President Wilson is a native of Appleton, Wisconsin. Her spouse, John Lammers, is a retired professor of communication. They have two grown daughters.

Rod Lehnertz is the current Senior Vice President of Finance and Operations at the [University of Iowa](/org/university-of-iowa). Rod has previous experience working at the [University of Iowa](/org/university-of-iowa) in Facilities Management. In this role, they were responsible for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of all university buildings and grounds. Rod was also responsible for the operation and maintenance of all utility systems on campus.

Lynette Marshall is proud to serve as president and chief executive officer of the [University of Iowa](/org/university-of-iowa) Center for Advancement, an organization that combines two longstanding institutions—the UI Foundation and the UI Alumni Association. Lynette leads the organization’s mission to advance the [University of Iowa](/org/university-of-iowa) through engagement and philanthropy. During her tenure, the UI Foundation experienced record performance and growth and became a national leader in creating a campus culture of philanthropy. In 2016, the UI completed For Iowa. Forever More., the largest fundraising campaign in the history of the university and the state of Iowa, raising more than $1.975 billion and exceeding the initial goal by $275 million.

Lynette joined the organization in 2006 and provides leadership to several national groups, including the Association of Governing Boards, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), the CASE 50 Steering Committee, and she currently serves as dean of the Big Ten Fund Raisers Institute (BTFRI). Lynette served 25 years in fundraising at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, including her final two as associate chancellor for development. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural science and a master’s in educational policy studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Lynette grew up on a fifth-generation family farm near Peoria, Illinois. She and her husband, Jeffery Ford, have two adult children, Michael and Katharine.

J. Martin (Marty) Scholtz, Ph.D., is the Vice President for Research at the [University of Iowa](/org/university-of-iowa).

Prior to joining the [University of Iowa](/org/university-of-iowa) in June 2019, Scholtz served as the executive associate vice president for research at Texas A&M University, where he held faculty appointments in the Departments of Biochemistry & Biophysics, Molecular & Cellular Medicine, and Medical Biochemistry and Genetics.

His research program has focused on fundamental studies of the folding, stability and solubility of proteins and peptides. This research uses of a battery of biophysical techniques including NMR, differential scanning calorimetry, fluorescence and visible spectroscopy and circular dichroism spectroscopy.

His research activities have been supported by the National Institutes of Health, The [American Cancer Society](/org/american-cancer-society), The American Heart Association, The Robert A. Welch Foundation, Amgen, Inc. and The Advanced Research Program of the State of Texas. He has received multiple awards, including being named an Established Investigator of the American Heart Association, a Junior Faculty Research awardee from the [American Cancer Society](/org/american-cancer-society), a Montague Scholar by the Center for Teaching Excellence at Texas A&M and the recipient of the Teacher/Scholar Award from the University Honors program.

He graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 1984, where he did undergraduate research with Professor Sheldon M. Schuster. He earned a doctorate in chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1989, working in the laboratory of Professor Paul A. Bartlett. After postdoctoral work with Robert L. Baldwin at [Stanford University](/org/stanford), he joined the faculty of Texas A&M in 1993. He has taught courses in medical biochemistry, biophysics, cell biology and spectroscopy.

Dr. J. Brooks Jackson is the Vice President for Medical Affairs and Dean of the Carver College of Medicine at [University of Iowa](/org/university-of-iowa). Dr. Jackson has been a math tutor at Mathnasium - The Math Learning Center from October 2019 to June 2022, and a Chemistry and Biochemistry tutor at [University of Iowa](/org/university-of-iowa) from September 2019 to August 2022.
