Shady Attia has extensive work experience in the field of sustainable architecture and building technology. Shady currently serves as the President of the Doctoral College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Liège. Shady is also a Professor in Sustainable Architecture and Building Technology at the same university.

Shady Attia began their education at Deutsche Evangelische Oberschule Kairo, where they obtained their High School Diploma in 1997. Shady went on to study at Helwan University Cairo, earning a Bachelor's degree in Architecture from 1997 to 2002. Shady then pursued a Master's degree in Sustainable Landscape Architecture at Wageningen University & Research from 2004 to 2006. In 2006, they obtained a certification as a Certified Architect in the Netherlands from Architectenregister: SBA. Following this, they completed a brief course on Introduction to building performance simulation at Eindhoven University of Technology in 2006. Shady Attia then spent the years 2007 to 2008 at Texas A&M University, working towards their PhD in Sustainable Architecture. Shady later pursued their PhD in Zero Energy Buildings at Université catholique de Louvain from 2008 to 2012. Additionally, they have obtained several certifications, including being a Certified Architect in Egypt from the Egyptian Engineers Syndicate in 2002 and a United States Green Building Council Faculty from the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) in 2015. Shady also obtained a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council in 2009.
