James Stewart

James Stewart has an extensive academic career, currently serving as the Head of the Department of Infection Biology and Microbiomes and Chair of Molecular Virology at the University of Liverpool since October 2001. In addition to leadership roles within the School of Infection and Host Defence, James oversees budgets, planning, safety, and HR matters. James also holds honorary positions as a Royal Society University Research Fellow and Adjunct Professor at the University of Georgia and Northwest A&F University, respectively. Previous roles include postdoctoral research positions at the University of Edinburgh and Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute, focusing on the immune response to Epstein-Barr virus and developing virology models. James holds a PhD in Molecular Virology from The University of Manchester and a BSc (Hons) in Bacteriology from The University of Edinburgh.
