Senior Privacy Fellow And Adjunct Law Professor at University of Maine

Rita Heimes serves as General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer at the International Association of Privacy Professionals since November 2015, and has been a Senior Privacy Fellow and Adjunct Law Professor at the University of Maine School of Law since January 2001. In addition, Rita Heimes holds the position of Advisor at the Future of Privacy Forum and has previously worked as Counsel at Verrill Dana LLP, where legal expertise in trademark, copyright, patent, trade secrets, information privacy, and data security law was provided. Experience also includes roles as an Associate Attorney at Verrill Dana, LLP, Holland & Hart LLP, and Bogle & Gates, as well as a Judicial Clerk for the Honorable Robert Beezer at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Rita Heimes holds a JD from Drake University Law School and a BA in Journalism and Spanish from the University of Iowa, also studying International Business.
