University of Maryland Medical System Health Plans

University of Maryland Medical System Health Plans, Inc. (UMMSHP) was formed in 2015 when University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) acquired Riverside Health, Inc. Since 2013, Riverside Health has participated in Maryland’s HealthChoice Program as a Medicaid Managed Care Organization (MCO). In the first two years the health plan grew to over 25,000 members and served all but the three western Maryland counties. In 2016, UMMSHP launched University of Maryland Health Advantage (HMO/HMO-SNP Plan) on Riverside Health’s platform. Today, UMMSHP operates both University of Maryland Health Partners (formerly Riverside of Maryland) and University of Maryland Health Advantage (a Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plan). UMMSHP builds upon Riverside Health’s early successes in the managed care industry and continues bridging the gaps between providers and health insurance plans. The UMMS providers, facilities and health plans work together as Maryland’s Home Team for Health to create healthier communities.
