Norberto Gonzalez-Juarbe is an Assistant Professor at the J. Craig Venter Institute since August 2018, focusing on host responses during co- and secondary bacterial infections to influenza. Previously, Norberto served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Alabama at Birmingham from September 2015 to July 2018, where research centered on the pathogenesis of S. pneumoniae in cardiac tissue during invasive pneumococcal disease. From August 2011 to August 2015, Norberto was also a Postdoctoral Fellow at UTHSCSA, investigating bacterial pore-forming toxins and their effects on cell death mechanisms, specifically necroptosis and apoptosis, in relation to host immune responses. Earlier research experience includes development of a mouse model of pneumonia caused by antibiotic-resistant pathogens as a Graduate Research Assistant, as well as mathematics instruction at New Millennium Learning and Universidad del Este. Norberto earned a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from UT Health San Antonio in 2015, following a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from United States Jobs updates in 2010.
