Philip Arkinstall

Philip Arkinstall is a distinguished musician and educator with extensive experience in performance and teaching. As Co-Founder of the Melbourne Ensemble since February 2017, Philip has led the septet in notable performances, including collaborations with the MSO and Short Black Opera. Philip's role as Associate Principal Clarinet for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra began in August 2008, complementing a rich teaching career at institutions such as the University of Melbourne and Monash University, where individual tutoring and chamber music coaching are provided. With a commitment to fostering new talent, Philip also co-founded the Plexus Collective in February 2013, which has commissioned and premiered over 100 contemporary works. Previously, Philip held the position of Principal Clarinet with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra from 1998 to 2009 and continues to contribute as a guest lecturer at various prestigious music institutions. Philip holds a Bachelor of Music Honours from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
