Karl H.

Karl H. is an accomplished Lead Research Engineer at the University of Minnesota, focusing on the POPROX News Recommendation Platform since April 2024. Prior experience includes serving as a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at NVIDIA, where Karl contributed to the Merlin GPU-accelerated recommender systems framework and developed a four-stage framework for production recommender systems. At OpenMined, Karl was involved in creating open-source, privacy-preserving machine learning tools. While at Spotify, Karl played a pivotal role in developing a contextual recommender system and built a content identification library that supports company-wide metrics. Karl holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kansas and was recognized by engineering honor societies Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi during academic pursuits.
