Nathan Towney

Interim Pro Vice-Chancellor, College of Human & Social Futures at University of Newcastle

Nathan Towney serves as the interim Pro Vice-Chancellor for the College of Human and Social Futures and Pro Vice-Chancellor for Indigenous Strategy and Leadership at the University of Newcastle since October 2019. Additionally, Nathan is the Deputy Chair of the NSW Education Standards Authority and a member of the Australian Rugby League Indigenous Council. With extensive experience in the NSW Department of Education, Nathan held various leadership roles including Principal and Deputy Principal, and currently serves as the Deputy Principal at Wadalba Community School. Earlier, Nathan managed the Aboriginal Education Team for the South Western Sydney Region and was Head Teacher of PDHPE at Granville Boys High School. Notably, Nathan received the Educator of the Year award at the Dreamtime Awards in November 2017. Nathan completed a Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Health and Physical Education at the University of Newcastle from 2001 to 2004.
