Rick Trainor

Rector of Exeter College at University of Oxford

Rick Trainor has been the Rector of Exeter College at University of Oxford since July 2014. Prior to that, they served as Principal of King's College London from September 2004 to July 2014, during which time they also held the title of Professor of Social Theirtory.

Under Trainor's leadership, King's College London underwent a period of significant growth and development. The college's budget nearly tripled to £550 million, and the student body grew to 26,000 students. Trainor also oversaw the launch of a number of new institutes, including an Institute for the Study of India, an Institute for the Study of China, and an Institute for the Study of Russia.

During their tenure as Principal, Trainor also helped King's College London become one of the three academic members of the Francis Crick Institute, a leading biomedical research center. In addition, King's College London was named the Sunday Times UK University of the Year in 2010.

Rick Trainor is a respected leader in the field of higher education, and has won numerous awards for their work, including the Leadership award from CASE Europe in 2011.

Rick Trainor completed their D.Phil. in Modern Theirtory at the University of Oxford. Their research focused on British urban social history of the Victorian period. Prior to their time at Oxford, Trainor completed their Master of Arts in Theirtory at Princeton University.

Rick Trainor reports to Louise Richardson, Vice-Chancellor. Rick Trainor works with Daniel Grimley - Head of Humanities, Roger Goodman - Warden of St Antony's College, and Elish Angiolini - Principal of St Hugh's College.
