Michael Restuccia is the senior vice president and chief information officer (CIO) at Penn Medicine. Restuccia has over thirty years of healthcare information technology experience and has worked nearly all his career in the healthcare information technology provider, vendor and consulting services industries.
Through his tenure as senior vice president and CIO, Penn Medicine has achieved many advances in healthcare technology. Most recently in 2018, Penn Medicine became one of the first organizations to enable electronic health records to patients on Apple's Health Record App. In addition, the organization was recognized and awarded for digital innovation by the Philadelphia Alliance for Capital and Technologies for designing the first of its kind Penn Life Gained app for Bariatric surgery patients using Apple Care Kit. Penn Medicine received global IT honors earning the Business Transformational and Operational Excellence Awards and CIO 100 award for the PennChart Integrated EHR project. Other honors included noteworthy advancements in telemedicine and security.
LIn 2017, Penn Medicine became the first academic health system to fully deploy the integrated Epic Corporation application platform (AKA: PennChart) in the ambulatory, inpatient, and homecare settings. This platform integration has further enabled innovations in patient care, revenue cycle and precision medicine.
In 2016, Restuccia was recognized by Computerworld as a Top 100 Chief Information Officer (CIO). Under his leadership, the Penn Medicine IS team was recognized as a consistent "Most Wired" award winner over the last decade. The team placed 4th in the 2016 Information Week Elite 100 and ranked 9th nationally in 2015. Additionally, Restuccia received a Smart CXO award, as a leading CIO, from Philadelphia Smart CEO Magazine in March 2012 for his leadership in maintaining and building on Penn Medicine's implementation of technology and innovation to advance patient care.
Prior to joining Penn Medicine as an IS management consultant in 2006, Mr. Restuccia served as President of MedMatica Consulting Associates, a healthcare information technology consulting firm that has been recognized as a four-time recipient of the Inc. Magazine 5,000 Fastest Growing, Privately Held Companies in the US and the Philadelphia region.
While at MedMatica, Restuccia served as the Interim Chief Information Officer for several healthcare organizations, including Phoenixville Hospital, Doylestown Hospital and the University of Pennsylvania Health System. Prior to MedMatica, Restuccia served in leadership roles with several other healthcare information technology firms, including First Consulting Group and Shared Medical Systems (now Cerner Corp.). Restuccia achieved a Bachelor of Science degree from Rider University and earned a MBA from Villanova University.
