Gilberto Brambilla

Gilberto Brambilla currently serves as the Associate Dean (International) for the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences and as a Professor in Photonics at the University of Southampton, where involvement has spanned from January 2005 to the present. Additional roles include Professorial Fellow (Research) and holding various positions with the Royal Society as a Principal and Senior Research Fellow. Brambilla has also contributed to The Future Hub in Photonics as Deputy Director and General Manager from January 2016 to March 2025, and served as Director of the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Photonics from September 2013 to December 2015. Prior to this, Brambilla was a Research Fellow at the Optoelectronics Research Centre from March 2002 to January 2005 and a Pirelli PhD Student from 1998 to 2001. Academic qualifications include a PhD in Optoelectronics from the University of Southampton and an MSc in Engineering from Politecnico di Milano.
