Luis Fernando Arenas

Luis Fernando Arenas is a lecturer in Energy Engineering at the University of Southampton, a position held since February 2025. Prior to this role, Arenas served as a Research Manager at the University of Antwerp from June 2023 to January 2025 and as a Humboldt Research Fellow at Technische Universität Clausthal from August 2021 to May 2023, focusing on the development of organic and zinc flow batteries and advanced electrode materials. Arenas also contributed to the field as a Research Fellow in Electrochemical Engineering at the University of Southampton from September 2017 to March 2019 and completed a PhD in Electrochemical Engineering at the same institution from 2013 to 2017, specializing in cerium-based redox flow batteries. Earlier educational achievements include a Master’s degree in Chemical Process Technology and a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, both from Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila.
