James Kennell

James Kennell currently serves as Head of Surrey Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) and Reader/Associate Professor at the University of Surrey, while also leading the Department of Hospitality and Events within the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. Kennell has extensive academic and professional experience, including roles as a Board Member for The Tourism Society and Visit Surrey, and as Deputy Editor for the Event Management Journal. Previous positions include Acting Head of the Department of Marketing, Events and Tourism, and Principal Lecturer at the University of Greenwich, along with leadership roles at the International Tourism Studies Association and James Kennell Associates. Academically, Kennell holds a PhD from the University of Greenwich, focusing on the regeneration of English seaside towns, along with an MA in Cultural Industries Management and a PG Dip in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.
