Sebastian Oberst is an accomplished academic and researcher with extensive experience in the field of mechanical and mechatronic engineering. Currently serving as Acting Director of the Centre for Audio, Acoustics and Vibration at the University of Technology Sydney, Sebastian is also an Associate Professor in the School of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering and a core member of various research groups focusing on bioacoustics, complex dynamics, and acoustic metamaterials. Prior roles include Senior Lecturer in the School of Computer Science, Adjunct Associate Professor at UNSW, and Visiting Fellow and Research Associate at UNSW Canberra. Sebastian's research expertise encompasses nonlinear time series analysis, biomechanics, friction-induced instabilities, and geological exploration data. With a solid academic foundation, including a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from UNSW and a Dipl. Wirtsch.-Ing. from Technische Universität Dresden, Sebastian has contributed to several prominent organizations, including CSIRO, BMW, and Continental, in various engineering capacities.
