Romane Cristescu is a Postdoctoral Fellow and Director of the Detection Dogs for Conservation initiative at the University of the Sunshine Coast since July 2015, focusing on protecting native fauna and flora through the training and deployment of sniffer dogs. Prior to this role, Romane served as a Mine Closure Advisor at Sibelco Australia & New Zealand from 2011 to July 2015, concentrating on fauna recolonization to meet mine closure criteria. Romane's career began in the French Ministry for the Environment & Sustainability, working in the Biodiversity Strategy Unit from 2007 to 2008, where the focus was on developing indicators and monitoring biodiversity trends in French overseas territories. Romane holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Ecology from UNSW and advanced degrees in Genetics and Veterinary Biology, including a Master's degree from Universite de Tours and a veterinary specialization from Ecole Veterinaire de Nantes, complemented by a veterinary course at Ecole Veterinaire Maison Alfort.
